Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why isn’t the phosphate test strip showing a result even though I know there’s phosphate in my water?

The phosphate test strip is specifically designed to detect orthophosphate, not all phosphate forms. For accurate results, the water sample should also fall within a pH range of 6–9.

These strips measure only within their defined range of 0–100 ppm Phosphate (as P). If the phosphate level is above this range, the strip may not show color development. In fact, once concentrations exceed approximately 100 ppm, the color response decreases, and at around 500 ppm, the test pad may remain completely white — even though phosphate is present.

So, a lack of color does not necessarily mean there is no phosphate. Instead, the reaction pad may be overloaded. Try diluting the sample and retesting.

If sodium phosphate (Na₃PO₄) is being added, ensure the dosage does not exceed 100 ppm (as P) when using these strips.
